Since 1986, Myers has photographed the Salton Sea using a 4x5 view camera. In the first few years she stayed close to the shore of the sea, photographing a once elegant yacht club, motel and golf course that today lie abandoned.

She photographed the weeds growing up through cracks in the empty roads. Later she moved into the surrounding desert, looking for traces of earlier visitors.

Like an archaeologist, she searched for Indian fish traps and rock art and for the trails used by early explorers.
